A tall carved antique walnut chimneypiece in the Italian Renaissance manner.
The stepped shelf and pediment is set above a shallow frieze with a pair
of mythical dragons either side of a central grotesque mask amid
scrolling foliage, flanked by squared foliate endblocks and supported on a pair of elaborate Solomonic Columns.The elaborately carved double inner frieze has four panelled shell cartouche above a panel centred with a crowned, quartered shield guarded on either side by a further pair of mythical dragons. The opening is edged with a guilloche detail and the whole is raised on substantial carved
footblocks. Provenance: Removed from a Theological College in Glasgow, Scotland.
