Stock No.14592
A large and grand Gothic Revival chimneypiece carved from Belgian blue stone.
The deeply moulded cornice shelf rests on the monumental frieze, which is carved from one large piece of stone. This is decorated with a crisply rendered central crest and coat of arms, with the motto "ex-fide-fortis" (from faith comes strength), this is flanked by a pair of floral paterae in the form of roses beneath arching tracery and foliate decoration, on a heavily tooled ground. This sits on slender Gothic console jambs, over moulded footblocks.
Belgian, circa 1890.
The weight of this fireplace requires careful structural consideration.
